The road to ”Låkta” begins in Björkliden, through the valley where time stands still

Your journey begins in Björkliden mountain village, where the gnarled mountain birches still shelter you from the open winds. From here, the trail winds upwards, and quite soon you'll notice how the nature changes character. The trees thin out, the air becomes crisper, and suddenly the landscape opens up. You have stepped out onto the mountain plateau where the lappland heather grows densely. Make your way past the swimming lake and continue along the well-trodden path.

The path takes you further through Rakkaslahku, a magnificent U-shaped valley where you are surrounded by mighty mountain walls. Here, you hike or bike parallel to the streams, whose crystal-clear meltwater sings its own persistent melody. Take a break, scoop up the ice-cold, pure water in your hand, and feel how the arctic primal force re-energizes you. During the summer months, this valley is bathed in eternal light, and at your feet, you are met by a colorful sea of mountain avens and marsh marigolds.

The last lift towards heaven

After about nine kilometers and partly challenging terrain, the final, steep ascent begins. This is where you test your endurance. It requires a certain focus as the terrain becomes rockier, but with each step or pedal stroke, you leave the world below behind you.

And so, suddenly, it appears in the barren alpine landscape, 1228 meters above sea level: Låktatjåkko mountain lodge. A safe, dark-painted little outpost with red window frames that has defied weather and wind for generations.

When you step over the threshold, exhale, and are met by the scent of old wood, freshly baked waffles, and coffee – then you know you've made it. You've opened the door to something greater. The views stretching for miles over the midnight sun's mountain world will take your breath away – and give you a deep, intense feeling of being forever free.
